With the whole beginning, B.Iron and Gloom had different pseudonyms, and, Aran and Shadows ⅩⅢ didn't have any pseudonyms. To ease the reading, this page is written like if those ones would already have their actual pseudonyms.

What happened with Aran's band?
David S. use to accept Gloom's ask to be this band's bass player, he was learning the pieces with a tape, he came in a rehearsal to do an audition with Aran that didn't knew him but this last one didn't came on the rehearsal.
Then, Gloom and B.Iron went to Aran and he told them that he prefered to continue alone with a synthetiser to replace the musiciens. He didn't realy give reasons, what's certain, is that it have noting to do with David as Aran took his decision before hearing about him; at this time, Gloom began to compose and Aran didn't realy like his compositions, it's likely this fact played in favour of his decision.
The songs that Gloom composed for Aran's band (the bases of YVOS
, From the graves
and the bases of Rotting decadence
) and Eternal peace
composed by B.Iron around those envents are the first Black Swords' songs.
On his side, Aran continued alone, first under the name Ragnarock
(few bands of this name exist), then, quite quickly, Aran Spiritual Spiral
and finaly, simply under the eponym patronym Aran
. He recorded a demo (Witches Brew
) and an autoproduiced CD.
Why is Apollon Records' website the only record label in the links page, is it Black Swords' record label?
No, Apollon Records is in the link page because the boss of its sub-label Painkiller Records, Laurent P., has been the bass player of Aran's band previous to Black Swords. He even played the bases of what would become From the graves
. In any case, the band won't have any record label for the demo in hand.
Why did David S. leave Black Swords?
It's a complicated story where few misunderstanding went on:
First, David said one day that he's mostly a drummer, that bass was less important to him. Gloom believed that he meant that he would not stay in the band for a while. This last one began to look for a bass player, forcasting to tell about that to David to be sure that it was usefull, but, before seeing this last one, Gloom put an ad in a Metal T-shirt shop and David saw the ad before Gloom told him about it, he realy badly reacted and left the band.
Why recording a rythm box instead of the drums in ? (Preview Demo)
while B.Iron has always been in the band ?
Not recording in a recording studio but in their rehearsal local, the Black Swords members didn't have enough material to be able to record the drums suitably, thus, the prefered to record a rythm box programmed by B.Iron on a synthetiser.
What's the We do with what we have studio
?
Not willing to be dependent of a recording studio to record, the Black Swords members have always recorded with what they have, the We do with what we have studio
, it's the material that has been use to record by Gloom for few of his band and almost for Black Swords.
With time, Gloom bought a better recording material and B.Iron bought some drums microphones, so that now, they have a sufficient recording material and the name We do with what we have studio
stood.
The only Black Swords' interview is dating, is it still representative of the band these days?
Everyone evolves, the band also (indeed, the members are not all the same). This interview is so not realy representative of Black Swords but still a lot of things are true on it.
Why doesn't Black Swords do gig anymore?
The band's music does'nt fit to gigs (it's not obvious to reproduice it without a consistent number of musiciens and Black Swords' style is easier to appreciate on an audio support then on gig), that's why, in 1998, the band decided not to do gig anymore.
Why are the pieces of the démo ratée
and of ? (Preview Demo)
proposed in download on the website as those demos are not commercialised?
Because the demo that will be commercialised is not recorded yet.
But, it doesn't explain why the pieces of the démo ratée
are also on the website, those of ? (Preview Demo)
should be enough. Indeed, at the beginning, there was only the pieces of that last demo, on day, Gloom listened again the démo raté
and he thougt that beside all the faults of that demo, there were some kind of freshness and that at least, there is a true drums, that's why the pieces of that demo has been ad to the downloadable pieces.
The Black Swords' demo is waited for a while. Why does the band take so much time?
There are differant reasons:
Will Shadows ⅩⅢ record some violin on the demo?
Lots of things happend since Shadows ⅩⅢ proposed to play violin in Black Swords: he doesn't have a violin anymore, that is concretely already a problem moreover he is now a member of the band Mactabis, having his own band, Black Swords should not realy interest him anymore. Anyway, he won't participate to the recording of the demo because the band want it to reflect Black Swords and it's members as they are, without any guess.
What's Optimistic decay and what's the link with Black Swords?
It's the same thing, only the name change : Gloom conceptualised an heptalogie (seven albums) from a great part of Black Swords' lyrics. Following the decision not to do gig anymore, the band decided to record a demo, then to part with the other members and to record that heptalogie. In autumn 2006, Gloom and B.Iron has decided to change the name to mark this change, Black Swords will then be named Optimistic decay
, name that by the way fit better to the concept then the actual name.
